Upon Layers, 2018. Acrylic on canvas - 1200 x 1200 mm

“I want to fall to sleep with you,
and I could care less
whether it is in
layers upon layers
of clothing
or only our skin -
all I really want is to wake up
not knowing
where I end and you begin.”

- Beau Taplin, ‘A Goodnight’

Upon Layers is on its way to Sydney to its new owners x

upcoming exhibition - in the hope these sentiments ricochet

Around this precious world,
I observe crude rhetoric and regard the current provocative language threatening civil liberties.
I think about marginalised peoples and contemplate life journeys that metaphorically can be perilous and deadly, perhaps beautiful and uplifting, from the humdrum to the bright lights.
These painted figures are a reflection of my thoughts.

I belong to myself, acrylic on paper (hot pressed paper 640 gsm) - 750 x 1050 mm framed

I really wanted to take her photo, so I walked up to the nearest adult and asked. ‘Does she belong to you?’ Suddenly the music stopped and I heard: ‘I belong to myself’!
